Digital Dentistry

Technology That Improves Fit, Function, and Long-Term Comfort

Our Charlotte dental office is equipped with advanced digital tools designed to improve every stage of denture care, from planning to the final fitting.

Digital X-rays and cone beam 3D imaging help our dentists evaluate bone structure, gum health, and bite alignment with exceptional precision, especially when implant-supported dentures are being considered.

We’ll use digital impressions to eliminate uncomfortable putty molds and capture highly accurate measurements of your mouth.

Our team partners with a trusted local lab that hand-finishes dentures, so you can expect a level of attention to color, contour, and bite that simply can’t be replicated by machines alone.

Implant-Supported Dentures

A Secure, Long-Term Solution for Tooth Loss

Are you seeking maximum stability from your restoration? Implant-supported dentures offer a powerful alternative to traditional removable appliances. These dentures are anchored to dental implants placed in the jaw, so they stay in place while eating or speaking and help preserve bone structure over time.

Our dentists carefully evaluate candidacy for implants using 3D imaging and digital planning tools. While implant-supported dentures require more planning and healing time, you may find that the improved comfort, security, and quality of life are well worth the investment.

Full, Partial, and Implant-Supported Dentures

Partial Dentures

If you still have some healthy teeth but need a solution for gaps that are making eating difficult, our skilled dentists at Porter Dental Group in Charlotte, NC, can design a partial denture that completes your smile.

Partial dentures are held in place by clips that attach to a nearby tooth. We carefully color-match these replacement teeth so that people will notice your smile, not the denture.

We'll also take precise dental impressions of your mouth to ensure your denture is comfortable and has the most secure fit possible.

Partial Dentures
Traditional Dentures

Traditional Dentures

A traditional, full denture is the solution if you are missing most of your teeth or have widespread decay throughout your mouth. Traditional dentures have been used for generations, but don't mistake today's dentures for those of years past.

Porter Dental Group uses advanced technology to ensure a secure fit. We also take advantage of today’s lighter, more natural-looking dental materials to create dentures that are better than ever.

Full dentures simply rest on your gums and are held in place by natural suction and, if desired, adhesives. Many patients at our practice appreciate that they can get their dentures in as little as two weeks.

Implant-Supported Dentures

Implant-supported dentures are the closest thing to having your natural teeth back. They are attached to dental implants, which are small titanium posts that are surgically placed in your jawbone. You will never have to worry about these dentures embarrassing you by slipping out of place.

While patients love the beautiful, secure smile they get with implant-supported dentures, there's an unseen benefit that is perhaps even more important. Dental implants stimulate bone growth in your jaw, helping it maintain its original shape.

While implant-supported dentures cost more and take more time, many of our patients believe the health and lifestyle benefits they get in return are well worth the investment.

Understanding the Cost of Dentures

Clear Guidance, Insurance Support, and Flexible Financing

Traditional dentures are often partially covered by dental insurance. Dental implants are typically considered a separate procedure, and they’re not usually covered.

Our knowledgeable team will review your insurance benefits and provide a personalized estimate before treatment begins. If you’re concerned about out-of-pocket expenses, we offer flexible financing options through CareCredit® as well as in-house arrangements to help make your care more manageable.

Have questions about coverage or payment options?

Your Treatment Timeline Depends on Whether Implants Are Involved

Traditional partial dentures and removable dentures typically require only two visits to our office. However, patients who desire the enhanced stability of implants will require additional appointments and procedures. Our dentists can give you a personalized treatment timeline during a consultation at our practice.

By using a local Charlotte lab, we ensure your hand-finished denture meets our high standards for quality.

Planning

The first step for receiving any denture is planning. One of our dentists will assess the health of your teeth and gums and design a plan based on your current oral health and goals.

Preparation

Some patients will need to undergo preparatory procedures, such as tooth extraction or treatment for gum disease, before they can receive dentures.

Implant Placement

If you qualify for dental implants, you will need to undergo a surgical procedure to place them. It takes about three to six months for implants to stabilize before we can attach a restoration.

Impressions

Once the gum and bone tissue have fully healed, we will take impressions as a guide to design your custom dentures.

Fabrication

Our dentures are created in a dental lab using the highest-quality materials. You may need to wait a few weeks for your new denture to be custom-fabricated.

Final Results

When we receive your denture from the lab, our dentists can make any final adjustments at our Charlotte practice so you can enjoy a fully restored smile.

Adapting to Your Denture

Your dentures may feel odd for the first few weeks and you may notice extra saliva in your mouth. As you adjust, this issue should go away. Patients with traditional complete dentures may also notice some irritation or soreness. Your cheeks and tongue will learn to keep your restoration in place within a few weeks.

While you adapt, you should:

  • Eat soft foods
  • Cut your food into small pieces
  • Be cautious with hot or hard foods
  • Don't smoke

You may need to practice speaking or other common functions until you become more comfortable with the device.

Learn to Care for Dentures

Proper care and hygiene are important for the health of both your dentures and your smile.

To keep your denture clean and safe, you should:

  • Never place it in hot water
  • Brush and rinse the appliance daily
  • Refrain from using toothpaste on dentures
  • Use a soft-bristled brush for cleaning
  • Keep the device moist
  • Use a specially designed cleaner

Not sure where to start? Don't stress. Our team can provide recommendations on the best products and techniques for at-home care.

Choose a Dentist Who Speaks English & Spanish

Finding a dentist who can communicate with you and your loved ones is crucial. Not only can they reassure you about any stresses, but they can also clearly explain your treatment and dental needs.

You already know a local dentist that fits the bill: Dr. Robert Porter. He earned his certification in Business Spanish while in Madrid. This education allows him to give Spanish-speaking patients the personalized care that they deserve.

For a doctor that your family can rely on, request a dentures consultation with our Spanish-speaking dentist.
