Do you have crooked, gapped, or misaligned teeth but don't want to hassle with obvious metal wires and brackets?
Invisalign® is a discreet orthodontic alternative that can correct a variety of alignment issues using clear trays.
Dr. Charles A. Porter and Dr. Robert E. Porter in Charlotte, NC, offer this trusted orthodontic treatment to give you a beautiful smile.
Oral Health Benefits of Invisalign Treatment
Misaligned or crowded teeth can make it difficult to brush and floss properly. When you correct these orthodontic issues, you will be able to better maintain your oral health. If you have a misaligned bite, you may also be at risk for painful TMJ disorder symptoms. By aligning your bite with Invisalign, you can relieve stress on the TMJs.

Candidates for Invisalign Treatment
Patients Committed to Wearing the Aligners
For optimal and timely results, patients must be committed to wearing their aligners for 20 to 22 hours a day. You will remove them to eat and to clean your teeth, but you must wear them consistently to achieve the proper results.
Patients With Mild-to-Moderate Orthodontic Issues
While Invisalign is a great option for most bite issues, if your misalignment is severe, traditional orthodontics such as braces may be a better treatment option for you.
Patients in Good Oral Health
Before you begin Invisalign treatment, you will need to be in good oral health, free from tooth decay or gum disease. Our Charlotte practice offers comprehensive treatment to address oral health issues and help you qualify for orthodontic treatment.
Patients Who Do Not Smoke
Smoking can cause a host of oral and general health issues, including an increased risk of gum disease. It is best to stop smoking before treatment begins and plan to stop permanently.
Clear Aligner Treatment With Invisalign
Invisalign is a discreet, easy-to-maintain orthodontic option that addresses mild-to-moderate orthodontic issues without bulky and uncomfortable metal wires and brackets.

Do They Hurt?
Invisalign clear aligners are made of smooth, BPA-free plastic, so they do not irritate your gums. There may be some mild discomfort as your teeth and mouth adjust to the new aligners. However, this shouldn't last more than a few days and should be easily managed with over-the-counter pain medications. If you experience significant pain, contact our dental practice immediately so we can address it as soon as possible.
Caring for Your Clear Aligners
Cleaning and maintaining your Invisalign aligners is easy. Here are a few tips to maintain your oral health and clear aligners during your orthodontic treatment:
Remove the Aligners Before Eating
Remove the aligners before eating to prevent damage to the trays. Be sure to rinse your Invisalign trays in cool water before you put them back in your mouth. Do not use hot water—it could warp your aligner trays.
Brush and Floss Your Teeth
Remove the aligners and brush and floss your teeth like normal. It is important to maintain good oral health throughout the course of your orthodontic treatment.
Clean Your Aligner Trays
Keep your Invisalign trays clean by using a soft-bristled brush and a mild soap and water. Do not use toothpaste on your aligner trays.
Use a Case When Not in Use
When you are not wearing your clear aligners, put them in a protective case. This will prevent you from losing or damaging them.
Affordable Financing Available
We work with most insurance providers to reduce or eliminate your out-of-pocket costs with Invisalign treatment. However, we do not want financial barriers to prevent patients from seeking treatment. We accept CareCredit® financing and offer in-office financing options to help those who do not have insurance.
